Shaposhnik used OpenAI's Jalapeno announcement, made an hour before the event, to steer the conversation toward how others beyond OpenAI could pursue similar work, how open source can help, and which problems are worth solving.

We were lucky that OpenAI announced Jalapeno just an hour before that, as we could could focus on the questions on “how” to do the same instead of “why” and “who would want that”. With that Roman led the discussion right into the questions “can other people not just OpenAI do that”, “how open source can help” and “what are the problems worth solving”.
