Streaming platform Roku has launched a new 24-hour TV channel that shows nothing but AI movies and shows all day, every day.

Roku, which is set to be bought by Fox for $22 billion, recently introduced four brand-new channels that are available for free to all its users. One of these, found at number 300 of The Roku Channel, is “Fairground AI,” which broadcasts nothing but AI-generated content.

Anyone who tunes in will see a constant stream of movies and TV shows that don’t star any real actors, broken up by ads that are also made with AI.

According to Variety, the content is made by AI creators that Colin Petrie-Norris, the founder and CEO of AI studio Fairground Entertainment, found on social media. The aim is to create “gorgeous things” of a higher quality than the kinds of AI-generated videos usually found online.

Since it launched, clips showing the types of entertainment airing on the channel have surfaced online, with plenty of users roasting what they saw as “AI slop.”

One of the videos that went viral is a medieval drama, which was mocked for its clunky dialogue and jarring cuts between scenes.

“The future of entertainment is here,” joked one user on X. “Shame they didn’t use the ‘with good acting’ prompt,” said another.

Although Fairground AI is one of the first channels of its kind, some people predicted that this will soon become the new normal.

“In less than five years this will be common,” wrote another X user. “Every hotel TV will have countless AI slop vision channels and they will be a baseline vertical for budget streaming apps.”

This is just the latest example of how artificial intelligence is becoming more prominent in the film and TV industries. AMC recently had to pull an AI movie from theatres due to online backlash, while actor Matthew McConaughey believes it will “infiltrate” the Oscars one day.
