Robinhood Markets (HOOD) is rolling out AI-agent-led trading accounts for everyday customers as it races to make autonomous trading a mainstream product for retail investors.
The company said late Tuesday it will begin offering new so-called agentic accounts alongside other new products, including perpetual future contracts tied to crypto and options tied to earnings, as well as plans for weekend stock trading.
The product array is Robinhood's latest push to give retail investors increasingly sophisticated products "once reserved for hedge funds, big banks, and quant firms," CEO Vlad Tenev said in a press release ahead of the company's space-themed active trader event in Houston, Texas.
Robinhood will start releasing the new accounts to customers in a randomized manner over the coming weeks, while attendees at the Houston event — where Tenev appeared in an outfit reminiscent of Captain Kirk from Star Trek — received immediate access.
Robinhood first opened its trading platform to artificial intelligence in May by allowing customers to connect external AI agents to the online brokerage's trading infrastructure. Approximately 150,000 of its customers have since opened agentic accounts, the company said.
This latest version attempts to reduce the friction by moving the experience inside Robinhood's app.
"We were like, 'Oh, if we made this like 100 times easier and more delightful, … you could probably go from 150,000 people using it to millions," Abhishek Fatehpuria, Robinhood's vice president of product management, said in an interview.
Customers can instruct agents to monitor markets and execute trades, including through recurring strategies that run on pre-set conditions.
Trade-by-trade approval is switched on by default, but customers have the ability to turn approval off, allowing an agent to trade autonomously. Agents can only use funds transferred into a separate agentic account.
Robinhood will initially offer customers access to models created by Anthropic and OpenAI (OPAI.PVT).
The company will bill customers for model usage through its platform and said one OpenAI model, Luna, will be free for the remainder of 2026. The company declined to disclose whether it has revenue-sharing arrangements with AI providers.

Customers are responsible for their agents' trades, Robinhood said, adding that it hasn't yet measured or compared the investment outcomes of customers using agentic accounts with those of other non-agentic strategies.
