# Ripple Is Putting AI Agents In Charge Of Corporate Cash. Humans Will Still Have The Final Say.

## The agents can monitor liquidity, forecasts and financial risk, then recommend specific actions based on a company's own policies.

Ripple is expanding the use of [artificial intelligence](https://www.ibtimes.com/social-tags/artificial-intelligence) agents across its corporate treasury platform, giving the software the ability to monitor cash, liquidity and financial risk and recommend actions while requiring human approval before financial transactions are executed.

The company said that its GSmart AI technology is being expanded across forecasting, liquidity, risk management, reconciliation and reporting within [Ripple Treasury](https://ripple.com/ripple-press/ripple-treasury-brings-industry-s-first-governed-ai-for-enterprise-treasury/). The platform is the former GTreasury business that Ripple agreed to acquire for $1 billion last year as part of its expansion beyond [cryptocurrency](https://www.ibtimes.com/crypto) payments.

GSmart's agents can continuously monitor specific treasury processes, identify issues and propose actions for finance teams. Each recommendation can cite the section of a company's treasury policy that supports it, but the system requires approval from a person before an action involving money is executed.

Ripple said financial calculations are handled separately by deterministic software rather than generated by an AI model. AI is used to interpret policies, identify patterns in financial data and explain recommendations to treasury teams.

"Rather than asking customers to blindly trust an AI system, GSmart works within each organization's own treasury policies to surface recommendations transparently, while ensuring humans remain in control of every decision," Renaat Ver Eecke, senior vice president of Ripple Treasury, said in the company's [announcement](https://ripple.com/ripple-press/ripple-treasury-brings-industry-s-first-governed-ai-for-enterprise-treasury/).

The latest expansion builds on GSmart, which GTreasury [introduced in June 2025](https://treasury.ripple.com/posts/gsmartai-intelligence) before its acquisition by Ripple. The software was designed specifically for corporate treasury operations rather than as a general-purpose AI system added to existing financial software.

Ripple has now added Knowledge Studio, which allows companies to define policies and controls that govern how the AI agents operate. Proposed actions are checked against those rules before they are sent to an employee for approval.

Another feature, Ask GSmart, allows finance teams to ask questions about corporate financial data in natural language and generate reports and analysis. Ripple said the system draws from the same governed treasury data warehouse used for companies' official reports.

GSmart also includes tools for identifying unusual financial exposures, comparing projected cash flows with actual results and detecting potential liquidity gaps. Ripple said 60% of eligible customers have enabled its Risk Insights feature, while 44% are using Forecast Insights.

The AI expansion comes less than a year after Ripple [agreed to acquire GTreasury for $1 billion](https://ripple.com/ripple-press/ripple-breaks-into-corporate-treasury-with-gtreasury-acquisition/) in October 2025. The Chicago-based company had spent more than four decades developing treasury management software used by corporate finance teams to manage cash, payments and financial risk.

The acquisition gave Ripple an established position in corporate treasury as the company expanded beyond its original blockchain payments business. Ripple said the transaction closed later in 2025, and GTreasury has since been renamed Ripple Treasury.

Ripple took another step in April when it [added native digital asset capabilities](https://treasury.ripple.com/news/ripple-treasury-launches-first-treasury-management-system-tms-digital-asset) to the platform. Companies can use Ripple Treasury to view and manage traditional cash and digital assets held with banks and custody providers through the same system.

The platform's Unified Treasury feature is designed to give finance teams a combined view of fiat and digital liquidity, while Digital Account Management supports digital assets held with custody providers. Ripple said the system can handle digital assets alongside conventional treasury operations rather than requiring finance departments to manage them through separate platforms.

The GSmart expansion applies the same human-approval requirement to AI recommendations involving those treasury operations. Ripple says agents that can propose moving or committing cash must identify the relevant policy rule and wait for an authorized employee to approve the action.

The company also said customer data remains isolated and is not used to train shared AI models. AI interactions are logged to provide an audit trail, while companies can determine the limits within which individual agents operate.

Ripple Treasury says its broader platform connects with about 13,000 banks and handles $12.5 trillion in payment volume. Its products cover cash visibility, payments, liquidity, financial risk and other treasury functions for corporate customers.

The latest GSmart rollout extends AI tools that were already operating within parts of that platform to a wider range of corporate finance tasks, while keeping authorization for financial actions with the treasury employees using the system.
