Getting your
Trinity Audioplayer ready...One of the best parts about gamer glasses is that they’re often wilder and more adventurous than everyday eyewear. They go beyond those retro horn-rimmed glasses. The ones from Gunnar adopt a post-apocalyptic vibe or bring players closer to their favorite video game character. The company’s latest gaming efforts involve “Cyberpunk 2077,” CD Projeckt Red’s popular sci-fi game.
This year, they’ve introduced two products inspired by that game. The first is the Cyberpunk 2077 Dex glasses, which takes its cue from Dexter DeShawn, a Night City fixer. The other is the Cyberpunk 2077 Militech shades that make players look like a corpo trooper.
Gunnar sent over the Dex glasses for review, and they’re different from previous offerings. The eyewear features a quadrate shield-lens, which is one piece that covers both eyes. It’s reminiscent almost of ski goggles or the shades that Randy “Macho Man” Savage once wore. It’s a smart design that makes the glasses feel as though they cover a wider field of vision, while also being sturdy and light.
The Dex will remind players of DeShawn, who hires V and Jackie on an ill-fated job, but on its own, the shades look like they come straight out of that sci-fi universe. They’re futuristic, while also being grounded just like the world of Night City. It even has industrial-looking markings on the lens and the temples. Thoser are nice touches.
Unlike past Gunnar frames, these don’t fog up when pressed against the face. They’re also light, so that players can use them for hours. As for the impact of the blue-light blocking, studies are mixed on how this impacts, with the Cleveland Clinic saying it doesn’t help with eye strain, but it may have a benefit on sleep. Ideally, their effectiveness is up to users and how the lens make them feel.
With the health benefits unclear, the most advantageous use of the Dex glasses is for the looks. They do pop, and for streamers, it can help them stand out, especially if they want to do some “Cyberpunk 2077” cosplay or need a signature look. Personally, I prefer to use the glasses when I have to focus on work.
I wouldn’t wear it out in public because I don’t have the style to rock them, but they would be worth it for fans of CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi epic or any cyberpunk game.
