There was this old Ubisoft game - Child of Light, a beautiful fairy tale in watercolors, with wonderful music too. It was released on almost all platforms, except Mac ! And I travel a lot so I carry only a MacBook with me. So when OpenAI offered me 3 free trial days of Plus account, I decided to port Child of Light to MacOS. I only had windows binaries with packed assets so naturally it wasn’t going to be easy.

Anyway, I got a three-day free ChatGPT Plus, free Codex app for Mac, plenty of free accounts on DeepSeek and Claude, a directory full of extracted with Luna “Child of Light” assets, several hours of YouTube walkthroughs, and a whole galaxy of decompilers, disassemblers, debuggers, asset extractors, browser automation tools, and other instruments of software destruction.

Also, several liters of Pepsi Zero, a substantial number of Monster Energy drinks, and a copy of Windows version of Child of Light.

Not that I needed all that to reverse-engineer a fourteen-year-old game. In fact, I wasn’t even planning to disassemble the executable file.

But once you get locked into a serious reverse engineering, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

So it turned out, 3 days of ChatGpt Plus account was enough. Slightly encouraged, Sol recreated the engine, the movement and Aurora’s skeletal system, battle system and leveling up. And it never even looked at the executable…

I only recreated a few intro videos and scenes, a few initial levels and a couple of battles and one level up.

So here it is, running gloriously in Firefox on MacBook !
