Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Uses AI in Defense Amendment

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's office used Anthropic's AI assistant Claude to spell-check a summary of a defense amendment, leaving an artifact in the text posted to the House Rules Committee website. Multiple outlets report that an amendment summary for the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act posted to the House Rules Committee website contained the phrase "11:25 AM????Claude responded," an artifact that researchers and reporters traced to Anthropic's assistant Claude reported by The New Republic and others . The summary text was subsequently revised on the Rules Committee page, according to The New Republic. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna posted on X that "Yeah my staff used AI to spell/grammar check the amendment SUMMARY, not the actual amendment text itself," and later wrote, "NO Legislation is ever drafted with AI. All bill text from the House comes from the House Legislative Council which is prohibited from using AI," as reported by The Verge and other outlets.
