Perhaps it is only fitting that a product launched in the cloud should be renamed for the atmosphere it occupies.

The e-discovery company Relativity announced today that it has renamed RelativityOne, its cloud-based platform, as Relativity aiR, giving it the name that had previously been assigned to Relativity’s suite of AI and agentic capabilities.

The purpose of the name change, the company said, is to unify the platform and its AI capabilities under one name.

“This name confirms what our community already knows: AI is as transformative a shift as the cloud was years ago, and Relativity has the trusted platform and the experience to lead through it responsibly,” Phil Saunders, the company’s CEO, said in an announcement.

Starting from its founding in 2001, Relativity had long offered only as an on-premises product. In 2017, it introduced RelativityOne as a SaaS alternative. Even though the on-premises product had long been the 800-pound gorilla of e-discovery technology, the cloud platform eventually came to supersede it, to the point where, last year, [Saunders announced a 2028 deadline](https://www.lawnext.com/2025/01/putting-a-nail-in-the-coffin-of-its-on-prem-product-relativity-sets-2028-deadline-for-all-new-cases-to-move-to-the-cloud.html) for all new cases to move to RelativityOne.

Meanwhile, Relativity has been introducing a series of generative AI products, starting with its [2023 announcement of Relativity aiR](https://www.lawnext.com/2023/09/relativity-announces-air-for-review-its-generative-ai-review-product-plus-other-ai-products-for-e-discovery-and-data-management.html), designed to help users more quickly locate data responsive to a discovery request.

It has since rolled out aiR for Privilege for privilege review, aiR for Case Strategy for creating narratives and timelines, aiR Assist for conversational AI assistance, and, [most recently](https://www.lawnext.com/2026/08/relativity-announces-clair-a-conversational-ai-for-lawyers-but-youll-have-to-wait-awhile-to-chat-with-it.html), Relativity claiR, a conversational AI designed specifically for lawyers.

“The shift from RelativityOne to Relativity aiR reinforces where Relativity is focused: AI embedded natively throughout the platform, AI agents supporting the work already performed and opening up new kinds of work, simpler experiences built around AI agents, and extensibility that empowers Relativity’s community of partners and practitioners to solve new and unique legal challenges,” the company said in its announcement.

[In a companion blog post](https://relativity.com/blog/relativityone-is-now-relativity-air-the-ai-platform-for-legal-data-intelligence/), Chris Brown, who was [recently named Relativity president](https://www.lawnext.com/2026/07/relativity-president-chris-brown-on-the-gavel-acquisition-opening-up-to-claude-and-the-gangbusters-growth-of-air.html) after having been its chief product officer since 2018, said that the name change reflects the fact that customers are increasingly using the platform for a range of data intelligence purposes that extend beyond litigation.

In fact, he said, more than half of new matters customers are creating on the platform are not for litigation at all.

“Our industry is now fully entrenched in the era of the AI platform, where legal data is paired with purpose-built agentic capabilities to drive stronger outcomes and expand legal teams’ matter

intelligence,” Brown writes.

“That’s what we’ve been building: a system of record that securely houses your most sensitive and complex data at extraordinary scale, and a system of action that reads deeply into the documents, pairing agents with human judgment to surface insights and turn them into impactful work product.”

Relativity aiR’s AI capabilities are included in the [platform’s current pricing](https://relativity.com/platform/pricing/), so customers on the 2026 pricing plan will have access to every agentic tool as part of the  platform.
