The Bundesliga club's revolving door of managers raises questions about the stability underpinning its crypto sponsorship with Kraken
RB Leipzig has dismissed head coach Ole Werner along with assistant coaches Tom Cichon and Patrick Kohlmann, effective immediately.
Werner was appointed on June 24, 2025, on a contract through 2027 after arriving from Werder Bremen. His tenure produced a third-place Bundesliga finish and Champions League qualification for the 2025/26 season.
A boardroom split over a winning coach #
Internal discussions within the club’s board during June 11-15 reportedly favored Werner’s immediate separation despite his successful debut season. The reasoning appears to center on long-term suitability rather than short-term results.
Why crypto investors should pay attention #
Kraken, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world, became RB Leipzig’s Official Crypto Partner in September 2024. The deal was designed to promote fan engagement and drive crypto adoption among the club’s supporter base.
No direct impact on the Kraken partnership has been reported as a result of Werner’s dismissal.
The unofficial token problem #
RB Leipzig does not have an official crypto token. An unofficial fan token called RBLP has been trading without any formal club affiliation. Without official backing, the token’s value is entirely speculative, driven by sentiment rather than any contractual relationship with the club.
