Rabbit returns with OS3, a personal AI agent that can access files and connect computers
Artificial intelligence startup Rabbit Inc., best known for launching the consumer-oriented R1 AI-enabled mobile device that fits in a pocket, unveiled OS3 on Tuesday, a personal AI agent that runs in the cloud and connects to personal devices.
Although OS3 runs in the cloud, it connects and operates on a user’s PC and other devices through the rabbit agent, which installs through a single command. The company said it can be installed on up to five machines.
The industry has already seen a glut of personal AI agents and assistants including OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Instinct and most recently Muse, all of which provide autonomous AI capabilities that run on consumer devices, remember long-term goals, and use digital tools – such as email, calendars, the capability to read and write files – in order to complete tasks in the background.
Rabbit said OS3 and the Rabbit agent can connect to any AI model, but users must “bring their own key,” meaning that although the agent is model agnostic, the user must provide their own subscription. This means that users must sign up for a model provider, such as Anthropic PBC’s Claude, OpenAI Group PBC’s GPT or supply their own local model.
The agent can also connect to aggregators such as OpenRouter. The agent is capable of swapping between models without affecting context, memory or skills – meaning that users can save on cost depending on the complexity of the task at hand.
“We’ve spent two and a half years building toward a system you don’t operate, but instead just tell it the outcome,” said Chief Executive and founder Jesse Lyu. “OS3 allows users to stop worrying about whether a task is technically possible, and start collaborating on whatever is on their mind (whether a wild idea or a concrete problem).”
Users can type to the agent through a normal chat interface or speak out loud. The agent follows along and supports deep conversations, providing 24/7 capabilities with background operations and contacting the user when long-term tasks are complete. It connects to users’ phones through a paired Telegram bot and through the web so users can stay in contact.
Frontier labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI have also been testing always-on personal agent computer-use capabilities as well. For example, Claude Dispatch lets the company’s Windows and macOS app to run on a user’s PC, which can run local agents even when the user is not at home or in the office, connected via a mobile device, and even access local files.
Rabbit said OS3 has universal skill compatibility, meaning that if users happen to use a different agent or AI assistant, they can import skills from those agents. Just copy and paste the skill’s URL and OS3 will set it up without requiring command prompts or additional configuration.
The company stressed that OS3 contains guardrails and will only act in response to user instructions. It will not run tasks on its own. Sensitive actions require user consent and confirmation; system-level permissions are further required and requested locally by the operating system. Users may also revoke permissions at any time.
Users can currently install OS3 on Windows, macOS and Linux local machines, alongside cloud virtual machines, dedicated AI machines and the R1. More device types are planned to follow. The R1 is not required to run or operate OS3, but it does work with it.
The new agentic assistant does require a Rabbit account to get started and users can sign up at the company’s website.
