Qwen 3.8/Swift 1.5 Flash Next is nuts A user reported that running the OpenCode agent on a locally hosted Qwen 3.8 Flash Next model, connected via MCP, could drive the SolidCraft design tool despite near-random crashes, which the agent diagnosed and worked around with custom agent rules. The user said the agent-built designs would have taken twice as long by hand, and that agent-assisted design turns an inexpressible face/edge editing process into a vague description refined over a few prompts. The user also said Layerling proved more reliable than their own effort at chamfers, fillets, loft and hollow functionality, and praised its self-hostability. Oh, I hadn’t spotted that. In the meantime, I’m playing around with Layerling a bit, and…I won’t lie, it’s better than my effort At least, it’s a bit more reliable with chamfers and fillets, and it has better loft and hollow functionality. Also, it’s self-hostable, which I like. I did play with SolidCraft earlier, just getting my OpenCode agent using local Qwen 3.8 Flash Next, obviously to drive it with MCP. It’s pretty crash-happy, but I managed to get around that with some agent rules the agent managed to diagnose the near-random crashes, and design a workflow that avoided them . Still, it managed to build a couple of designs that would’ve taken me twice as long. I’m finding that designing prints using an agent is…actually pretty brilliant. It turns it from a frustrating “I don’t even know the words to explain what I need to do to this face/edge/etc” process into a vague description, then a few prompts to refine the output.
