Quantum Systems' $1.2 billion Series D, more than doubling the Munich-based drone maker's valuation to roughly $8 billion in under eight months, is the latest data point in a broader reallocation of venture capital toward AI-native defense platforms rather than pure-play foundation model labs. The round, disclosed July 2, was co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, with Airbus Defence and Space also deepening a technology partnership with the company. Quantum Systems said it will use the capital to expand manufacturing across Germany, Ukraine, the US, Australia, Romania, the UK, and the Baltics, and to keep investing in the AI and software layer, MOSAIC UXS, that lets its air, land, and sea drones share data and operate together. Co-CEO Florian Seibel said the company is now profitable, with more than 19,000 missions flown in Ukraine in 2025. The raise lands amid a record year for defense-AI funding: Dealroom data cited by CNBC puts 2026 investment in the sector at $17.4 billion already, surpassing all of 2025, alongside similar mega-rounds at Anduril, Shield AI, and Helsing.
