The audio brand Cleer showcased the device at a Qualcomm event in Maui, Hawaii, on Thursday, India time, signaling a new direction for hearables in the agentic AI era.
The cameras are not designed for photography or video recording. Instead, they act as sensors, mapping the environment to enable multimodal AI that processes voice and visual information together. Qualcomm says this allows AI to respond to context-aware queries and take action on the user's behalf. Potential use cases include real-time translation, personalized listening experiences, and AI assistants that understand where the user is and what they are doing.
The concept runs on Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 chip, introduced on the second day of the Snapdragon Summit. The chip is 30 percent smaller, twice as powerful for AI tasks, and up to 40 percent more power efficient than its predecessor. These gains could make future audio devices smaller, smarter, and longer-lasting.
But the headline feature is not sound quality. It is connectivity. The Sound Elite Gen 2 includes an integrated, low-power Wi-Fi 6E radio that lets wearables communicate directly with cloud services, bypassing the smartphone. This means earbuds and headphones can access AI agents and cloud-based services without being tethered to a phone.

Qualcomm is building an ecosystem around this called Snapdragon Sound Apps and Agents, which includes assistants, translation, and transcription tools. The company sees hearables as a new emerging audio category that brings personal AI to consumers. It is part of an always-connected network of devices, including phones, headphones, glasses, cars, and home tech, that understand context and allow AI agents to better understand users and act on their behalf.
Apple is also reportedly working on camera-equipped AirPods, according to sources. Qualcomm and Cleer appear to be exploring a similar path with this concept. Neither company has said whether the product will eventually go on sale, but the concept offers a glimpse at where earbuds could be headed next.
The move reflects a broader industry shift toward multimodal AI, where devices combine voice, vision, and other sensor data to deliver more contextual experiences.
