The chipmaker continues to expand beyond smartphones as it builds long-term hardware relationships with tech giants
Qualcomm has announced a multi-generational product partnership with Amazon, the latest in a series of moves by the chipmaker to lock in long-term supply agreements with major technology platforms as it pushes aggressively beyond its smartphone roots.
For a company trying to convince Wall Street it can generate over $15 billion in data center revenue by fiscal 2029, each new long-term deal helps build that case.
A relationship that goes back over a decade #
Qualcomm and Amazon are not strangers. Their hardware collaboration traces back to 2014, when the ill-fated Amazon Fire Phone shipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor inside.
In January 2025, the two companies publicly announced a collaboration focused on AI-driven in-vehicle experiences. That effort paired Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Cockpit Platform with Amazon’s AI services, including the Alexa Custom Assistant, to create smarter automotive cabin technology.
Qualcomm’s diversification push is the real story #
Qualcomm is aiming for roughly $40 billion in total revenue from non-handset chips, with data center revenue alone exceeding $15 billion by fiscal 2029.
Most notably, Qualcomm revealed at its June 2026 Investor Day a multi-generational CPU agreement with Meta Platforms for the Dragonfly C1000 project, with production expected to begin in the second half of 2028.
The competitive landscape is getting crowded #
Amazon has been investing heavily in its own custom chip designs, including the Graviton series for general computing and the Trainium and Inferentia lines for machine learning workloads. Google has its TPUs. Microsoft has announced custom silicon projects.
The hybrid edge-cloud AI architecture that underpins the Qualcomm-Amazon automotive work reflects a broader industry trend. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform handles the edge processing while Amazon’s cloud AI services handle the heavier lifting.
