Leaders don't just want their employees using AI — they're taking advantage of the tech, too.
PwC senior partner and US CEO Paul Griggs is embracing that challenge as he says the company experiences its strongest pipeline of new clients.
The Big Four leader told Business Insider that he "got nudged" to experiment with AI more and now keeps two chat systems open on his phone and computer throughout the day. He declined to name which models he uses, but said his go-to tool is a custom AI model he dubbed "PG's Whisperer," which he created using two different models.
"I use PG's Whisperer all day long, and then I contrast and compare information," Griggs said.
Griggs said PG's Whisperer has been around for about a year, and he's become a big fan. The tool emerged from conversations with a PwC colleague who works on the firm's intelligent enterprise offerings.
After the two spent time "pinging back and forth," the colleague encouraged Griggs to build a customized solution rather than relying solely on prompting to get the results he wanted. Griggs said the colleague gave him the steps to build it over text.
"That, to me, was an acceleration of my own discovery," Griggs said.
Mastering AI isn't the only new demand facing consulting executives. The rapid pace of business, as well as the pressure to stay ahead of clients, is raising the stakes for leaders.
Griggs said he uses AI to review lengthy documents, test ideas against what he's seen in the news, and pressure-test strategy work. It allows him to assess information at a speed that was "simply not possible before," he said.
He also feeds the assistant material he plans to say or do, including speeches he's writing, and asks for feedback. Sometimes, his question is as straightforward as: "Does it suck or does it not?" he said. Other times, he asks whether the point he's trying to make is actually coming through — and what he should change if it isn't.
"I don't know what my token consumption is, but I can tell you that somebody does, and it would be significant," Griggs said.
