There has been a **subtle bug** in my Rust program for years now. It didn't cause any actual behavioral issues, but the code was **brittle** and I had accidentally broken it multiple times. I wanted to fix the bug, but I did not know exactly how to **prompt** it in OpenCode (or Pi).

I think this is a case where it is actually **easier** just to do the code change **manually** instead of using agentic AI. I made the change, and:

• It required some follow-up changes.

• It overall simplified and fixed the long-standing inconsistency.

I still don't know exactly how I would **prompt an agent** to fix this bug. It would probably involve some sort of **refactoring** and removing arguments, moving the database logic—the prompt to have the code fixed would probably be about as long as this blog post. I could just do it myself, and write the blog post as well.
