In July we continued to invest in running context-engineering workloads reliably at scale, and in making it easier to build on Materialize with coding agents. Here are some of the highlights; for the full list of changes, see the release notes.
Sources and sinks
. You can now do blue-green cutovers on Kafka sources, to pick up upstream schema changes without downtime.Kafka source versioning. Kafka sources and sinks can now use the AWS Glue Schema Registry for Avro, so you can manage your schemas end to end on AWS.AWS Glue Schema Registry, on sources and sinks. Materialize can now replicate from a PostgreSQL hot standby, moving replication load off the primary that serves your production traffic.**PostgreSQL physical replica supportIceberg sinks on Google Cloud(public preview). Clusters and serving
Autoscaling to speed up hydration*(public preview). Clusters can now automatically spin up and down burst replicas to hydrate faster, so you can recover from incidents sooner and speed up iteration cycles.. ALTER CLUSTER commands now run in the background, so a reconfiguration continues even if your session closes.**Asynchronous cluster reconfigurationFreshness targets for queries(public preview)*. The new Bounded Staleness isolation level lets you set a freshness target on queries, so if data freshness drops below the target, a query returns an error instead of blocking.Faster queries, more objects. Materialize now handles 13% more queries per second under heavy concurrent write load, and self-managed deployments now support 2x higher object limits.
Agent experience
. The agent and developer MCP servers now support browser-based OAuth, so you can securely connect your coding agents with a single command.OAuth sign-in for MCP servers. The developer MCP server can now run SELECT, SHOW, and EXPLAIN against user objects, such as views and tables, so coding agents can debug against real data and query plans.Developer MCP query tool
Operations
SCIM role mapping*(private preview)*. Materialize Cloud now supports SCIM, so user access is granted and revoked automatically as people join, switch teams, or leave your organization.
