Earlier this month, the Postman team headed to APIdays Munich (July 8-9) for two days of talking APIs with developers and architects. As an AI-first company, we came to share what we’re building and to show how APIs are becoming the foundation that makes AI useful: the layer that lets agents act on real systems safely and reliably.
It’s a good moment for that conversation. In Postman’s 2025 State of the API Report, only one in four developers said they design APIs with AI agents in mind. And while 70% have heard of the Model Context Protocol, only 10% use it regularly. Munich was full of people working to close that gap.
Beyond code generation: building context-aware agents #
On the main stage, Gbadebo Bello, Senior Developer Relations Advocate at Postman, gave a talk on how to build AI agents that go beyond generating code to actually reasoning about the systems they work with.
His main point: context is the answer. Agents are only as good as what they know about your APIs, data, and constraints, and APIs are how you give them that context. He walked through how to ground agents in real API specifications so they act reliably instead of guessing.
Hands-on: the AI-powered API and MCP workshop #
On Wednesday, Gbadebo led a hands-on AI-powered API and MCP workshop, where attendees rolled up their sleeves and worked through connecting AI to APIs using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the emerging standard for giving agents structured, governed access to tools and data.
It was the perfect complement to the main-stage talk. Instead of only hearing why context matters, participants got hands-on with how to wire it up, turning APIs into the tools that agents can safely reason over and act on.
Live at the Postman booth #
Away from the stage, **Gbadebo Bello **(Senior Developer Relations Advocate), Danny Dainton (Senior Developer Advocate II), and Andreas Zettl (Corporate Solutions Engineer) delivered live demos across both days. They spoke about:

Between the three of them, they kept demos running, and answered questions, from a steady stream of developers from all kinds of backgrounds across both days.
Trivia, headphones, and a whole lot of developers #
The booth wasn’t all screens and slides. We ran developer trivia with Bitwit, which turned quiet show-floor moments into friendly competition. Our top three finishers each walked away with a prize and some well-earned bragging rights.

A personal note from Munich #
On a personal note, this was my first time in Munich, and even though most of my time was (happily) spent at the booth, I did sneak out for one short break. I made it count. I did a quick loop through Viktualienmarkt for a proper currywurst and stopped into the magnificent Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Church of the Holy Spirit) right by the market. Its pink-and-white Rococo interior, gilded angels, and awe-inspiring ceiling are the kind of thing that makes you pray for an easy 200 OK. And, okay, I made one quick detour into Cartier on Maximilianstraße.
Between the conversations on the show floor and the little slice of the city I got to see, Munich set a high bar. Danke schön, Munich. We’ll be back.
