Panjaya.ai, Shortical Partner on AI Dubbing for Microdramas in Six Languages

Panjaya.ai and Shortical have struck a strategic partnership to bring AI-powered localization to mobile-first microdrama content, the companies revealed Thursday at the APOS conference in Bali.

Under the deal, Shortical’s serialized drama output is being localized into Spanish, Portuguese, French and German, with Japanese and Russian to follow. The collaboration targets an addressable audience of more than a billion viewers across those language markets. Panjaya’s technology automates translation, voice performance adaptation, timing and lip-sync while preserving the emotional register of the source material – a particular challenge for short-form dramatic content that drops new episodes daily or weekly.

Shortical currently logs more than 20 million episode views per month in the U.S. The sector has grown sharply in recent years; in China, analysts estimate it now generates more revenue than the local theatrical box office.

“Serialized, creative storytelling lives or dies on emotional authenticity,” said Guy Shimoni, CEO of Shortical. “Our data shows how audiences immediately notice when localization breaks immersion. Panjaya was the first platform that allowed us to scale internationally without losing the emotional intensity and cinematic quality that define our shows.”

Traditional dubbing pipelines have struggled to keep pace with microdrama’s release cadence, and existing AI dubbing tools have drawn criticism for flat or artificially rendered performances. Panjaya positions its workflow as a solution to both problems, using what it calls human-guided AI processes to maintain performance nuance at scale.

“Great dramas resonate with people when the performance feels raw and authentic, and they can resonate with billions of people when they feel that same way in the viewer’s own language,” said Guy Piekarz, CEO of Panjaya. Piekarz discussed the partnership and the broader outlook for global storytelling at his APOS session, “Breaking the Language Barrier.”
