Alex Karp's latest deal integrates Nebius' compute infrastructure into Palantir's enterprise platform, letting commercial clients run AI models on their own terms.
Palantir Technologies has named Nebius Group as its preferred sovereign AI infrastructure partner for commercial customers, a deal that stitches together Nebius’ compute muscle with Palantir’s enterprise software stack. The announcement was made on September 8.
The partnership integrates Nebius’ compute and inference capabilities directly within Palantir’s enterprise perimeter. That perimeter includes AIP, Ontology, Foundry, and Apollo, the suite of products Palantir has spent years building into the operating system for data-heavy organizations.
In practical terms, customers can deploy open AI models and fine-tune them using their own proprietary data without handing control of their compute, models, or data to a third party.
Nebius, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker NBIS, brings modular data centers located at secure power sites to the arrangement. These purpose-built environments are designed to resolve the compute bottlenecks that have become a limiting factor in enterprise AI adoption.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp emphasized the partnership’s sovereignty focus, stating it enables organizations to “run your own AI models under conditions you control.”
This isn’t Palantir’s first sovereignty play of the year. In June, the company partnered with NVIDIA to deploy Nemotron open models in air-gapped environments, targeting US governmental agencies and critical infrastructure operators. Then in July, Palantir established a framework with Rackspace Technology focused on supporting regulated enterprise deployments.
The Nebius partnership extends this sovereignty agenda from government and critical infrastructure into the broader commercial market.
Regulatory frameworks across Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia now impose strict requirements on where data can be stored, processed, and transferred. Even in the US, sector-specific regulations in finance and healthcare create environments where sending data to a generic cloud provider introduces legal and operational risk.
For Palantir’s stock (NASDAQ: PLTR), the commercial sovereignty push represents a potential expansion of the company’s revenue mix. Palantir has historically derived a significant portion of its revenue from government contracts. For Nebius, the deal provides a marquee enterprise partner that validates its modular data center approach, with “preferred” partner status suggesting a deeper integration than standard vendor approval.
