With crypto miners and even shoe companies already getting into the data centre game, it is of little surprise that telcos are also throwing their hats into the ring, and France’s Orange is next up.
On Monday, Orange revealed its €3 billion ($3.4 billion) plan to launch a data centre joint venture with infrastructure investor Morrison and grow its existing compute capacity by 10x to 400MW.
Orange group CEO Christel Heydemann said the move was backed by her conviction that “France will need sovereign, trusted digital infrastructure if it is to rise to the challenge of surging demand driven by cloud and artificial intelligence.”
