OpenRing – Open-source, self-hosted voice AI agent platform (Vapi alternative) OpenRing, an MIT-licensed open-source voice AI agent platform from developer elifalanrocha, launched as a self-hosted alternative to Vapi that charges no platform fee and accepts Vapi's assistant JSON, provider names, tool calls and webhooks so a Vapi client can migrate by changing its base URL. OpenRing runs on Node.js 18 or later via `npx openring`, serves its dashboard at http://localhost:8000, and executes each call through a Pipecat pipeline of speech-to-text, model and voice providers such as Deepgram, Groq, Ollama, ElevenLabs and the bundled free Kokoro voice, which downloads about 120 MB on first start. The platform keeps keys, calls and transcripts on the user's own server with no telemetry, versus the US$0.05/min Vapi and US$0.055/min Retell charge, and records per-turn latency and per-provider cost in its dashboard. Self-hosted voice AI agents with a Vapi-compatible API. No platform fee. OpenRing does the same job on your own computer or server, with your own provider keys, and speaks the same JSON as Vapi. - 💸 No platform fee, ever. You pay Deepgram, OpenAI, Twilio or whoever you pick, directly, at their price. - 🔁 Vapi-compatible. Same assistant JSON, provider names, tool calls and webhooks: a Vapi client moves over by changing its base URL, and Import copies an account in one click. - 🖥️ Yours. Keys, calls and transcripts stay on your machine. No telemetry. - 🆓 Free to try. A free local voice Kokoro is built in, so your first test call costs nothing.
