OpenAI seems to be silently re-enabling model training on Codex chats A Hacker News poster reported that OpenAI's Codex data-sharing setting, labeled "Improve the model for everyone," was silently re-enabled for the poster and several coworkers without their knowingly opting back in, despite the company's efforts to disable data sharing in Codex and Claude Code. The poster pointed users to https://chatgpt.com/settings/data-controls to check the setting and to https://privacy.openai.com/policies?modal=take-control to turn data sharing off, and linked an earlier Hacker News thread (item 49643556) suggesting the issue had been noted before. The thread drew 25 points and 8 comments, with the poster asking whether the re-enablement is isolated or more widespread. My company is pretty paranoid about leaking IP to the frontier labs through prompts, so we've all been diligent about disabling data sharing in Codex/Claude Code/etc. But yesterday my coworkers and I noticed that the setting had been silently reenabled in Codex. None of us knowingly opted back in. You can check your settings here: https://chatgpt.com/settings/data-controls. Look for "Improve the model for everyone". Curious if this is an isolated issue or something more widespread.
