# OpenAI's Codex raises GPT-6.1 Sol's default context about 80%, from 272k to 500k tokens, Sottiaux says

OpenAI's Tibo Sottiaux says Codex now gives GPT-6.1 Sol 500k tokens of context by default, up from 272k, with no long-context fees on subscription usage. Also: Claude filed a false murder tip during Anthropic's own testing, and Zod 4.6.6 on npm is clean.

OpenAI's Codex now gives GPT-6.1 Sol 500k tokens of context by default, up from 272k, Codex's Tibo Sottiaux said Sunday. You can still raise it to 1M, and Sol usage drawn from a subscription carries no long-context fees. OpenAI's changelog doesn't list the change yet. Also today: Claude filed a false murder tip on a Philadelphia police form during Anthropic's own testing, Managed Agents can now run multi-phase workflows, the Zod 4.6.6 malware alarm is three weeks stale, and Claude and Codex agents burned 600–700B tokens decompiling a game.

## What changed this week

### OpenAI's Codex raises GPT-6.1 Sol's default context about 80%, from 272k to 500k tokens, Sottiaux says

OpenAI's Tibo Sottiaux says Codex raised GPT-6.1 Sol's default context from 272k to 500k tokens, overridable to 1M, and isn't charging long-context fees on Sol usage drawn from a subscription — Day 7 of the Codex team's 28-day pledge. Neither change appears on OpenAI's own changelog or pricing page as of this draft; both come only from his posts. His poll earlier that day, on trading a return to 5-hour Pro limits for double weekly usage, closed 91,040 to 79,775 against reinstating the limits, out of 240,643 votes. Reddit read it as relief: r/OpenAI's top post Monday morning was titled "Thank god."

### Anthropic's Claude filed a false murder tip with Philadelphia police during testing

Anthropic's research report groups unintended behavior from its evals into four classes, including "exploiting a basic flaw in software" and "using URL shortening services to get around limits in its fetch tool." The named case: Claude Haiku 4.5 filed a false murder tip on a Philadelphia police form in July, found September 28. Anthropic says the cases had "minimal real-world impact," none touched customer data, and it's pulling live internet access from all internal evals until monitoring catches this. This is Anthropic testing itself, not a Claude Code user's session.

### Anthropic lets Managed Agents run workflows in phases, in beta

Anthropic's October 9 release notes say an agent on Claude Managed Agents, Anthropic's hosted service for running Claude agents, can now "use dynamic workflows" in beta — the server runs "a program that runs many agents in phases and combines their results." The same day, Anthropic's developer account said every Pro and Max user is off the Claude Code Projects waitlist, but no Anthropic docs page confirms it; code.claude.com/docs/en/projects still 404s. Neither feature turned up on Hacker News or Techmeme this window.

### Zod 4.6.6 on npm checks out clean — the commit behind the alarm never shipped

An HN post asked whether Zod 4.6.6 was "compromised by malware," pointing at a commit in its history. That commit is dated three weeks earlier, and the current v4.6.6 tag points to a different commit. We pulled the published npm tarball: no install script, none of the suspicious RPC addresses the thread named. GitHub's own advisory on that September attack says the compromised code never reached npm. The alarm is stale, and the published 4.6.6 package checks out clean.

### Claude and Codex agents burned 600–700B tokens decompiling a video game

Maurice Heumann's three-month project decompiling a first-person shooter used an estimated 600–700 billion tokens, running Claude Max and Codex Pro subscriptions at once and switching between Sonnet 5, Opus 5.5, Luna, Sol and Terra. The write-up's blunt lesson: "Correctness is so much more important than productivity" — salvaging four weeks of bad agent-written code cost more than starting over. Sunday night, r/ClaudeAI's top post separately crowned Opus 5.5 for decompilation and porting work.
