OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5.5 Instant Mini

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-5.5 Instant Mini in ChatGPT on July 6, 2026, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant Mini as the fallback model served after users hit GPT-5.5 Instant or Auto rate limits, according to OpenAI's release notes. The new fallback will not appear in the model picker and does not affect the API or Codex.
