New products are ‘built for the AI era’, says OpenAI president Greg Brockman

OpenAI is working on a suite of new AI-powered devices for ChatGPT, according to company president Greg Brockman.
The new products will be voice-first, aimed at moving beyond the constraints of typing on a screen in favour of more natural, conversational interactions with artificial intelligence.
“We’re building a family of devices,” Mr Brockman said on the New Things with Joanna Stern podcast.
No specific details were given, though Mr Brockman claimed that they would be “built for the AI era” and be “maximally useful... just something that people really want in their personal and work lives.”
OpenAI launched its first hardware product earlier this month, unveiling a $230 miniature keyboard designed for users of the company’s Codex tool.
A more consumer-friendly gadget is expected to be unveiled later this year, which is designed to serve as a “human-like” companion for everyday ChatGPT users.
Developed in collaboration with Jony Ive, who led the design of the original iPhone, the device is rumoured to be screenless and fitted with a camera and other sensors.
The ChatGPT creator is currently caught up in a high-profile lawsuit brought about by Apple, with the iPhone maker claiming that OpenAI stole trade secrets in order to design its new products.
Two of the defendants in the case are former Apple employees now working for OpenAI, who are accused of emailing themselves internal information from their previous company.
OpenAI has denied the accusations, claiming it is “not aware of any evidence” that the lawsuit has merit.
“We believe in fair competition and allowing people the freedom to work wherever they choose, and we’re focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere,” the company said in a statement.
In his latest interview, Mr Brockman said OpenAI has “no interest in other companies’ trade secrets.
