The AI company's revamped business tier now offers a two-track pricing model as it pushes deeper into the enterprise SaaS market.
OpenAI is shaking up its enterprise pricing with a new premium tier for ChatGPT Business, offering seats at $125 per user per month, or $100 per user with annual billing. The move sits alongside the company’s standard Business seats, which remain priced at $25 per user monthly or $20 with an annual commitment, creating a clear good-better split for organizations shopping for AI tools.
From Team to Business: what actually changed #
The ChatGPT Business plan itself isn’t entirely new. OpenAI rebranded what was previously called ChatGPT Team into ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025. But the rebrand came with more than a name change.
Standard seats require a minimum purchase of two and include shared workspaces, administrative controls, single sign-on (SSO), and a privacy guarantee that no business data gets used to train OpenAI’s models.
OpenAI also trimmed the standard seat price by $5 back on April 2, 2026, bringing the monthly rate down from $30 to $25 and the annual rate from $25 to $20.
Another operational change worth noting: starting August 19, 2026, any seats added to an existing Business plan will incur immediate pro-rated charges rather than waiting until the next billing cycle.
The pricing math for organizations #
Let’s put some numbers on this. A 100-person team going all-in on standard annual seats would pay $2,000 per month, or $24,000 per year. That same team on premium annual seats would be looking at $10,000 per month, or $120,000 per year.
OpenAI’s Enterprise plan, which is custom-quoted, typically requires a minimum of roughly 150 seats. For mid-market companies that don’t need 150 seats but want more than the basics, the premium Business seat fills a gap that previously required either overpaying for Enterprise or making do with less.
Simplification as strategy #
OpenAI has also been pruning complexity from its Business offering. The company phased out its Codex-only seats model for new workspaces as of June 24, 2026. That model let companies buy cheaper seats that were limited to coding assistance rather than full ChatGPT access.
