# OpenAI hid Asteroids, Snake and Brick Breaker inside the Codex Micro

### How we verified

Methods: reverse engineering.

RuntimeWire found production modules explicitly named codex-micro-mini-games and codex-micro-mini-game-composer inside the Codex desktop client. The code enumerates three games: asteroids, brick-breaker, and snake.
The activation path watches the Codex Micro joystick for roughly two rotations within six seconds, then selects a game and associates it with the active composer. Separate rendering code implements each game’s rules, scoring, animation, and controls.
RuntimeWire then modified a laboratory copy of the client to replace the hardware gesture with a keyboard shortcut. The patched client successfully rendered Brick Breaker inside the composer. The game transformed the composer’s “What should we work on?” text into destructible blocks and displayed a working ball, paddle, score, and multiplier.
The patch changed feature activation and input handling. It did not create the games or replace their native rendering, level-generation, scoring, or physics code.

### Reproduction

RuntimeWire partially reproduced the finding.

Work from a copy of the matching app.asar; do not modify the Store installation.
Verify the source archive’s SHA-256 hash.
Force feature flag 3207467860.
Replace the joystick-triggered state transition with a keyboard handler that writes the same { composerId, game } object used by the production bridge.
Launch the copied client with an isolated user-data directory.
Trigger the replacement shortcut.
Cycle through brick-breaker, asteroids, and snake.
Compare the resulting behavior with the untouched rendering and game-logic modules.
