Data Controls FAQ Learn how to manage your ChatGPT data settings What are the Data Controls settings? Data Controls let you decide how ChatGPT uses your conversations and interactions. They specifically allow you to choose whether your conversations help improve our models. Learn about controls we offer you for ads here . Depending on whether you're signed in or not, your options vary slightly: When you're signed out , you can choose if your chats are used to help train ChatGPT When you're signed in , you have additional options like exporting your data or deleting your account How do I stop my chats from training ChatGPT? (i.e., "Improve the model for everyone")? On Web (Signed-in): Click your profile icon Select Settings Go to Data Controls Turn off "Improve the model for everyone" Your conversations will still appear in your chat history but won't be used to train ChatGPT. On Web (Signed-out): Click the ? icon in the bottom-right corner On Mobile: Open the side-bar menu Tap your profile icon Select Data Controls Does this functionality sync between web and mobile devices? Yes. Once you turn off model training, the setting applies to your entire account. It doesn't matter which device you're using. How do I export my data from ChatGPT? These chats: Aren't used to train our models May be reviewed only to monitor for abuse Don't get saved in your history and don't create memories For additional information about Temporary Chats, please refer to our FAQ: Temporary Chat FAQ What happens to my chats if I turn off training? They'll still show up in your history, but they won't be used to improve ChatGPT. If it's a Temporary Chat, it will be deleted after 30 days. Please note that turning off Memory and Personalization features does not disable safety features that may use limited, safety-relevant context in rare, high-risk situations to help ChatGPT respond more safely. I previously opted out of model training by writing to the support team. Will you continue to honor my opt-out? Yes.
