# OpenAI acquires NextSlide to bring AI-generated presentations into ChatGPT > Source: > Published: 2026-08-10 10:08:14+00:00 # OpenAI acquires NextSlide to bring AI-generated presentations into ChatGPT **OpenAI acquired NextSlide, the startup that turned prompts, notes, documents, and research into editable presentations.** Founder Ahmed Beshry now works on the product side at OpenAI, building ChatGPT. The [NextSlide](https://nextslide.ai/) website, which launched just over a year ago, now shows nothing but his farewell note. Neither side disclosed the purchase price. Beshry wrote on [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ahmedbeshry_nextslide-is-joining-openai-share-7491547325379751936-3JOu/) that the announcement comes "a few months late" and that the deal closed earlier this year. This is Beshry's second exit. He previously co-founded Caper AI, which [sold to Instacart for $350 million in 2021](https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/19/instacart-acquires-caper-ai-a-smart-cart-and-instant-checkout-startup-for-350m-as-it-moves-deeper-into-physical-retail-tech/). [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/08/openai-acquires-presentation-startup-nextslide/) first reported the deal. In March, the company released [a ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft Excel](https://the-decoder.com/openais-new-gpt-5-4-model-powers-chatgpt-for-excel-with-finance-optimized-reasoning/). In May, it shipped [a plugin that works directly inside PowerPoint](https://the-decoder.com/openai-launches-a-chatgpt-powerpoint-plugin-and-warns-it-might-accidentally-delete-your-content/). As early as summer 2025, OpenAI was already [testing agents that generate presentations and spreadsheets right in the chat](https://the-decoder.com/openai-is-testing-chatgpt-agents-that-create-and-edit-presentations-and-spreadsheets-in-chat/), compatible with Microsoft formats but independent of Microsoft's apps. NextSlide joins a string of small team acquisitions, including Sky, Roi, Context.ai, Crossing Minds, and the [analytics startup Statsig, which OpenAI bought for $1.1 billion](https://the-decoder.com/openai-buys-analytics-startup-statsig-and-makes-its-founder-the-cto-for-applications/).
