One UI 9.5 leak reveals Samsung’s answer to Google’s Create My Widget

A leak from leaker Fahad Ali Javed reveals Samsung's upcoming My Custom Widget feature, expected to debut with One UI 9.5 early next year, which will let users generate widgets by describing what they want, likely powered by Gemini Intelligence. The feature mirrors Google's Create My Widget, which is slated to arrive this summer on select Pixel and Galaxy devices, and may initially support only native Samsung apps.

  • A leak offers an early glimpse at Samsung’s upcoming My Custom Widget feature, expected to debut early next year with One UI 9.5.
  • It could be based on Android’s Create My Widget, which is expected to arrive this summer on select Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices.
  • When available, this custom widget option will let users choose from a few preset options or generate their own by describing what they want.

Back in May, Google showcased Android’s upcoming Create My Widget feature, powered by Gemini Intelligence. While it isn’t available on any smartphone today, we’re getting an early look at what Samsung One UI’s version could look like.

In a post on X, leaker Fahad Ali Javed has uncovered evidence of a custom widget creation option within a One UI 9.5 build. The accompanying screenshot shared by Javed shows the My Custom Widget option listed among the other available widgets.

As with Google’s implementation, the sample widget shown in the image above suggests this feature will only work with native Samsung apps, at least initially. While we don’t yet know how Galaxy smartphone owners will be able to create their own widgets using My Custom Widget, we presume it will rely on generative AI capabilities, similar to Create My Widget.

Thanks to Google’s brief demo in May, we have a decent idea about how Create My Widget would work. With this in mind, it’s not far-fetched to assume that Samsung’s version will also tap into Gemini Intelligence to help users create their own widgets.

It’s also worth pointing out that the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and the Z Flip 8 are the first Galaxy devices to feature Gemini Intelligence. This means the Galaxy S27 series could potentially offer similar capabilities out of the box when it debuts with One UI 9.5 early next year.

If Samsung’s version resembles Google’s Create My Widget, users can expect a selection of preset widgets and combinations, along with the ability to describe the type of widget they want on the home screen. While only native apps may be supported initially, we cannot rule out the possibility of third-party apps gaining support in the future. Create My Widget is expected to be available on select Pixel and Galaxy devices beginning sometime this summer, Google said in May. The company hasn’t clarified whether this feature will require a paid Gemini subscription.
