A Ghost in the Machine for Nenek Lia", "summary": "A developer built Ofrenda Digital, an offline-first digital altar for their late grandmother, Nenek Lia, as a Hacktoberfest Week 4 \"Ghost in the Machine\" submission. The single-file vanilla HTML/CSS/JS app stores memories locally via localStorage and FileReader with no accounts or server uploads, and includes commented code for running Gemma 2 2B locally through Ollama at localhost:11434, though the live GitHub Pages demo uses templates instead. The developer said testing it with family produced the response \"Tak pernah padam\" and that their mother called it \"ini kayak altar beneran.", "body_md": "*This is a submission for the [Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine](https://dev.to/challenges/hacktoberfest-week4-2026-10-26)*\n\n**Ofrenda Digital - Tak Pernah Padam 🕯️** — a small, offline-first digital altar for my grandmother, Nenek Lia.\n\nI didn't want to build something scary. Halloween and Día de los Muertos are about when the line between past and present feels thinner. In Indonesia we have *nyekar* — visiting graves with no signal, bringing favorite foods. \n\nMy interpretation: A digital ofrenda that you can bring to a cemetery without internet. The ghost is the memory, the machine is an old laptop that still runs AI without the cloud.\n\n**Live Demo:** [https://akmal2045.github.io/ofrenda-digital/](https://akmal2045.github.io/ofrenda-digital/)\n\nTry it: Fill the form (I added validation — try `Kakek Anwar` + `Nenek` and it will block you), click \"Nyalakan Kenangan 🕯️\"\n\n**Hacktoberfest 2026 · Week 4 DEV Challenge — Ghost in the Machine**\n\nBuild something spooky, or something that honors the past in the spirit of Día de los Muertos, with open-weight models or open-source AI.\n\n**Live Demo:** [https://akmal2045.github.io/ofrenda-digital/](https://akmal2045.github.io/ofrenda-digital/)\n\n**Repository:** [https://github.com/akmal2045/ofrenda-digital](https://github.com/akmal2045/ofrenda-digital)\n\n**DEV Post:** *Coming soon*\n\n**Ofrenda Digital** adalah altar digital untuk mengenang orang-orang terkasih yang telah berpulang — Nenek Lia, Kakek, Ibu, Ayah, sahabat, atau siapa pun yang ingin tetap dikenang.\n\nTerinspirasi dari tradisi **Día de los Muertos**, proyek ini membawa konsep *ofrenda* ke dalam konteks Indonesia dengan pendekatan **private, local-first, dan offline-capable**.\n\nTidak perlu akun. Tidak perlu mengunggah foto keluarga ke server. Tidak perlu internet untuk membuka altar.\n\n**Kenangan tetap milik keluarga.**\n\n**Gemma 2 2B** via **Ollama** local at localhost:11434 — no API key. Current demo uses template so it runs on GitHub Pages, real code is commented in index.html.\n\nFrontend: Vanilla HTML/CSS/JS, single file, FileReader, localStorage, custom validation.\n\nOpen innovation worked better than closed because it let me build something intimate that respects privacy, works offline, and lasts longer than any company.\n\nWhen I tested with Nenek Lia, it said \"Tak pernah padam\" — not chills, but warmth. My mom saw it and said \"ini kayak altar beneran\". That's when it landed.", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia", "canonical_source": "https://dev.to/akmal2045/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia-4d19", "published_at": "2026-10-31 06:06:40+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-10-31 06:19:42.053516+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "generative-ai", "ai-tools", "large-language-models"], "entities": ["Ofrenda Digital", "Nenek Lia", "Gemma 2 2B", "Ollama", "GitHub Pages", "Hacktoberfest", "DEV Community"], "also_reported_by": [], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ofrenda-digital-tak-pernah-padam-a-ghost-in-the-machine-for-nenek-lia.jsonld"}}
