# Nvidia opens expanded R&D center in Israel as AI chip demand fuels crypto compute market

The chip giant's tripled Beersheva facility and hiring spree signal deeper AI investment, with ripple effects already visible across decentralized compute tokens.

Nvidia just tripled the size of its research footprint in southern Israel. The company officially inaugurated a new 3,000-square-meter R&D center in Beersheva on Tuesday, replacing a facility one-third its size and committing to a 10-year lease on the space.

## What Nvidia is actually building

The new center sits inside Beersheva’s Gav Yam High-Tech Park and already houses hundreds of workstations. Nvidia plans to hire hundreds of additional engineers and developers to staff the facility, with full operations expected by mid-2026.

This makes Beersheva Nvidia’s southernmost R&D hub in Israel, joining larger operations in Yokneam and Tel Aviv.

Beersheva Mayor Ruvik Danilovich called the move “significant and vital news for Beersheva and the Negev.” The facility will focus on both hardware and software powering AI advancements.

## The crypto compute connection

Decentralized compute networks, think projects like Render, Akash, and io.net, exist because GPU time is expensive and hard to get. These protocols let people rent out spare GPU capacity on blockchain rails, creating marketplaces for the exact kind of compute power Nvidia manufactures.

Nvidia’s market capitalization has hovered near or above $3 trillion throughout 2025, reflecting how central the company has become to the AI infrastructure buildout.

## Israel’s role in the AI chip race

The Beersheva expansion specifically targets the engineering talent clustered around Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The 10-year lease commitment suggests Nvidia views Beersheva as a long-term play, with hundreds of new hires planned over the coming months.
