Not the fun stuff – waving down at your antlike neighbors, chatting up [green alien dudes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Gazoo) – but the dicey stuff like zero gravity and sound and communication distortions?\n\nThe Exploratorium has you covered with a [new exhibit called “Life in Space.”](https://www.exploratorium.edu/visit/calendar/space) Running through the summer, the show explores the science of how living things (human or otherwise) might breathe, eat and work in extreme conditions beyond Earth.\n\n“As renewed global interest in space exploration accelerates — fueled by missions like Artemis II — ‘Life in Space’ arrives at a pivotal moment,” the museum writes. “Humanity stands on the brink of a new era in space exploration, and this exhibition asks a timely question: What will it actually take to live there?”\n\nVisitors can admire detailed space-suit replicas and learn how scientists search for exoplanets and extraterrestrial intelligence. A section called “Can I Survive This?” plays with the senses to replicate audio changes on far-off worlds, and another called “Oops — There Goes Gravity” features a disorienting puzzle game that mimics weightlessness. With more than 50 exhibits in the show, it’s bound to be a far-out adventure.\n\n*Details: Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday (open until 10 p.m. Thursdays for ages 18 and up) at Pier 15 (Embarcadero at Green St.), San Francisco; $40 general-admission adult tickets include “Life in Space” and are available at exploratorium.edu*", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space", "canonical_source": "https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/06/24/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space/", "published_at": "2026-06-24 14:30:44+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-06-24 14:41:34.338005+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["ai-research"], "entities": ["Exploratorium", "San Francisco", "Artemis II"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/new-bay-area-science-exhibit-examines-survival-in-outer-space.jsonld"}}
