A native port of the PS2 version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 for macOS, built by recompiling the game's code from a user-provided disc image using AI-assisted tools.
The project provides a native port of the PlayStation 2 version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (NTSC-U, SLUS-20362) for macOS. The port is built by the user from their own copy of the game disc. The game code is translated to C using a static recompiler, with one C function generated for each game function, named according to the associated decompilation submodule. The game runs natively by using stand-ins for PS2 hardware, including SDL3 for graphics (Metal on macOS) and a model of the PS2 sound chip for audio. The port supports 60 fps gameplay, gamepad input, and a custom menu for settings and mods. The repository contains no files from the original game disc. Development was performed by AI agents (Anthropic's Claude models) via Claude Code, with human verification. The port is confirmed to run on Apple Silicon, while Intel-based Macs remain untested. Linux x86-64 builds run headless, and Windows x86-64 builds link but have not been executed. Further details are available at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nfshp2/nfshp2-port/HEAD/README.md.
