Then I moved into architecture, started leading teams, and became more involved in solving business problems, not just writing code.\n\nToday, I’m focused on building AI-powered products and working as an **AI-first Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)**.\n\nThis post is about that journey and how I think about software engineering today.\n\nFor many years, my work has been around building real-world applications.\n\nI have worked with technologies like:\n\nBut working on production applications taught me something important:\n\n**Writing code is only one part of building software.**\n\nA good solution starts before the code.\n\nYou need to understand:\n\nThis changed the way I approached engineering.\n\nAs I gained experience, I started taking more responsibility beyond my own code.\n\nI started working closely with teams, reviewing architecture, making technical decisions, breaking down complex requirements, and helping other developers solve difficult problems.\n\nThat eventually led me into a **Tech Lead** role.\n\nBeing a Tech Lead taught me another important lesson:\n\n**A Tech Lead is not just the person who writes the most code.**\n\nA good Tech Lead helps the whole team move in the right direction.\n\nMy responsibilities became things like:\n\nThis experience became very valuable when I started working more deeply with AI.\n\nAI didn't make me stop being a software engineer.\n\nIt changed what I could build.\n\nInstead of thinking only about traditional APIs, databases, CRUD operations, and business logic, I started asking different questions.\n\n**Can AI solve this problem?**\n\n**Can an existing workflow become smarter?**\n\n**Can users interact with the system in a more natural way?**\n\n**Can we automate part of this process?**\n\nThis led me to explore technologies and concepts around:\n\nBut I quickly realized that building an AI feature is not simply about calling an LLM API.\n\nThe difficult part is still the same:\n\n**Understanding the real problem.**\n\nThe Forward Deployed Engineer approach strongly matches how I already like to work.\n\nFor me, an FDE is someone who can go from:\n\n**Problem → Understanding → Architecture → Prototype → Production → Iteration**\n\nYou don't just receive a ticket and implement it.\n\nYou understand the environment first.\n\nYou look at the existing product, data, infrastructure, users, and business workflow.\n\nThen you decide where technology, and now AI can actually create value.\n\nSometimes the right solution will be an AI agent.\n\nSometimes it will be RAG.\n\nSometimes it will be a simple API.\n\nAnd sometimes the answer is **not to use AI at all**.\n\nThat last part is important.\n\nUsing AI everywhere doesn't make a product AI-first.\n\n**Using AI where it actually solves a problem does.**\n\nThis is something I strongly believe.\n\nAn AI-first engineer still needs strong software engineering fundamentals.\n\nAn AI application still needs:\n\nAn LLM response alone is not a production system.\n\nYou need to build the system around it.\n\nThat's where my full-stack and architecture experience becomes useful.\n\nI'm particularly interested in bringing AI into existing business applications.\n\nFor example, imagine an enterprise system that already has years of business logic, databases, workflows, and users.\n\nThe goal shouldn't always be to replace everything with AI.\n\nInstead, we can ask:\n\n**Where can AI make the existing system better?**\n\nMaybe AI can help users find information faster.\n\nMaybe it can understand documents.\n\nMaybe it can assist with complex workflows.\n\nMaybe it can summarize large amounts of data.\n\nMaybe an AI agent can perform repetitive tasks.\n\nMaybe natural language can become another interface for an existing application.\n\nThis is the kind of AI engineering that interests me.\n\n**AI that works with real software and real business processes.**\n\nToday, I see myself at the intersection of several areas:\n\n**AI-first Forward Deployed Engineer**\n\n**Full-Stack Architect**\n\n**AI Tech Lead**\n\nMy job is not limited to one technology.\n\nI care more about solving the problem than choosing a particular tool.\n\nI can work from the business requirement all the way to the production deployment.\n\nThat can include:\n\n**Understanding the problem**\n\n↓\n\n**Designing the solution**\n\n↓\n\n**Choosing the right technology**\n\n↓\n\n**Building the product**\n\n↓\n\n**Integrating AI where it makes sense**\n\n↓\n\n**Deploying it**\n\n↓\n\n**Working with the team**\n\n↓\n\n**Improving it based on real feedback**\n\nThat end-to-end ownership is what I enjoy most.\n\nGoing forward, I'll be sharing more about the things I'm actually building and experimenting with.\n\nSome of the areas I'm interested in are:\n\nI don't want this to be a place where I only share theoretical AI content.\n\nI want to share **what I build, what I learn from building it, what works, what doesn't, and why I made certain engineering decisions.**\n\nI've spent more than a decade building software.\n\nI've worked as a developer, architect, and tech lead.\n\nNow I'm combining that experience with AI to build systems that can solve more complex problems.\n\n**For me, the future of software engineering isn't about AI replacing engineers.**\n\nIt's about engineers being able to solve problems that were previously too expensive, too slow, or too complex to solve.\n\nAnd that's the direction I want to explore.\n\n**Build real things.**\n\n**Solve real problems.**\n\n**Use AI where it creates real value.**\n\nThat's my journey toward becoming an **AI-first Forward Deployed Engineer** and this is where I'm starting to share it.\n\nThanks for reading. 👋\n\nIf you're also building AI-powered products or working on the intersection of AI and software engineering, I'd love to connect.", "url":
