Deezer's AI music detector flagged the content, and a survey found AI fooled 97% of 9,000 listeners. The surge is driven by tools like Suno that make music creation trivial.", "body_md": "Whether you know it or not, you’ve likely seen an AI-generated… something today. An [image](https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/14/meta-u-turns-ai-image-feature-using-users-snaps-29132922/), a [video](https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/28/top-ai-slop-youtube-channels-generate-90-000-000-every-year-brainrot-25878138/), or even [a person](https://metro.co.uk/2026/05/02/ai-influencers-star-signs-childhoods-earn-28165781/).\n\nBut there’s also a good chance you’ve listened to AI, too.\n\nOne in two tracks uploaded to the French streaming service Deezer in June was AI-generated, the company told **Metro**.\n\nThis amounts to some 90,000 pieces of phoney music flooding the service every day, [double compared to September](https://metro.co.uk/2025/09/17/25-music-sent-popular-streaming-platform-now-fully-ai-generated-24190375/).\n\nThe reason why there’s such an influx of fictional music is simple, Aurélien Hérault, chief innovation officer at Deezer, tells **Metro**.\n\n‘Because it’s possible to do so,’ Hérault says, ‘it’s never been easier to create music, and with only a few words you can prompt a whole song.’\n\n## Can you tell which track is AI-generated and which isn’t?\n\nProbably not.\n\nWhen [Deezer asked 9,000 people last year ](https://newsroom-deezer.com/2025/11/deezer-ipsos-survey-ai-music/)if they could identify a track made by AI versus one made by humans, AI fooled 97% of them.\n\nCan you? Here are two tracks below. One was made by machine learning algorithms, statistical models and linguistic rules; the other by people.\n\nSomeday is a song made by the British-Sudanese neo-soul artist Elmiene, who is a human. While Say My Name With Respect was composed using Suno, an AI software trained using tens of millions of pop songs.\n\nThe artificial artist Xania Monet, crafted by the Mississippi poet Telisha Jone, [signed a $3million deal with a major R&B record label ](https://www.aimusicpreneur.com/ai-music-news/ai-artist-xania-monet-record-deal-hallwood-media/)in September.\n\nHow about another go? Though this round includes a certain AI soul singer whose monthly listen count rivals Ariana Grande.\n\nThe song Heart You Help Me Find, by the [dusky-voiced jazz singer Sienna Rose](https://metro.co.uk/2026/01/15/alarming-truth-behind-fake-singer-2-800-000-listeners-26303811/), has been flagged by Deezer’s systems as containing AI elements.\n\nToronto R&B creator 3ee (pronounced ‘Bee’, by the way) is the flesh-and-bones artist behind PDA.\n\nDeezer suggested one more AI artist to share with **Metro**.\n\nIts album page on Deezer has a label reading: ‘AI-generated content. This album includes tracks detected as generated with the use of AI.’\n\nWhich one has that label, though?\n\nThis one was a bit of a trick. Of course, the track which lists the artist as ‘Beats By AI’ is, in fact, a beat made by AI ([and an NSFW one in that](https://metro.co.uk/2025/11/18/filthy-ai-country-song-goes-viral-musicians-arent-joke-24730458/)).\n\nYet the vocals, instruments and lyrics for Dird Road I Stayed On were also produced by an algorithm.\n\nThe artist Breaking Rust, with some 1,800 fans, is a music project by composer Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor.\n\nOne of Breaking Rust/Taylor’s tunes, Walk My Walk, was the first AI‑generated single to top the Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart.\n\n## AI music once just 10% of daily Deezer uploads\n\nAI tools are being used in [playlisting](https://metro.co.uk/2024/04/09/tried-spotifys-new-ai-playlist-tool-got-songs-wet-farts-20614384/), demo recording and even making chart-topping music, so much so that Deezer made an [AI music detector](https://www.deezer.com/explore/en-us/ai-music-detector/).\n\nAnd these slop songs are nothing new – in 2023, the song Heart on My Sleeve’ went viral for its AI mimics of Drake and the Weeknd’s voices.\n\nThe TikTok user behind the track, ghostwriter, [compared their use of AI writing tools and voice clones ](https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/ghostwriter-heart-on-my-sleeve-drake-ai-grammy-exclusive-interview-1235434099/)to just that – ghostwriting.\n\nTech enthusiasts at the time were proclaiming that AI has ‘[forever changed](https://x.com/rpnickson/status/1639813074176679938)’ the music industry, letting anyone make music that sounds like a living, breathing Homo sapiens made it, or close enough.\n\nDeezer began tracking how much music being [uploaded to it was AI in January 2025,](https://newsroom-deezer.com/2025/01/deezer-deploys-cutting-edge-ai-detection-tool-for-music-streaming/) when it was around 10,000 tracks, or 10% of daily uploads.\n\nThe number doubled by April that year before climbing to 30,000 in September and 50,000 in November.\n\nIn January 2026, some 60,000 silicon singers were belting out painful ballads, gospel music and upbeat pop (or ‘A pop’).\n\nYet artists – of the human variety – feel these synthetic songs threaten the very existence of musicians.\n\n## Why do people listen to AI music?\n\n### Do you listen to AI music?\n\n-\nYes\n-\nNot at all\n\nThese homemade tracks [aren’t always labelled as AI](https://metro.co.uk/2026/01/15/alarming-truth-behind-fake-singer-2-800-000-listeners-26303811/) on music platforms, allowing fictional artists to sneak into playlists and recommendations.\n\nHérault says that the amount of streams – people actually listening – of AI tunes on Deezer is between 1-3%.\n\n‘Up to 85% of these streams are fraudulent, meaning people are synthetically boosting the streams to steal money from the royalty pool and legitimate artists,’ she says.\n\nGiven that Deezer excludes AI-generated tracks from recommendations, Hérault suggests that the thousands listening to them could just be curious, or have heard them on social media.\n\n‘We want to give our users the choice,’ Hérault adds, ‘and we’ve seen that people care about knowing if they listen to AI music or not.’\n\n**Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.**\n\n**For more stories like this, **[ check our news page](https://metro.co.uk/news/).\n\nMORE: [The clever new tech that could make AI look stupid](https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/18/quantum-computing-thing-thatll-even-bigger-smarter-ai-28540469/?ico=more_text_links)\n\nMORE: [Tesco is the latest supermarket testing human-sized robots — and shoppers think they’re ‘creepy’](https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/15/tesco-latest-supermarket-trialling-human-sized-robots-shoppers-think-creepy-29143336/?ico=more_text_links)\n\nMORE: [Moana’s lazy live-action remake is why Hollywood deserves the AI takeover](https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/08/moanas-lazy-live-action-remake-hollywood-deserves-ai-takeover-29088561/?ico=more_text_links)", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/music-streaming-platform-hit-with-90000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day", "canonical_source": "https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/23/music-streaming-platform-hit-90-000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day-29197715/", "published_at": "2026-07-23 06:00:00+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-07-23 06:23:12.390552+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "generative-ai", "ai-products", "ai-tools"], "entities": ["Deezer", "Aurélien Hérault", "Metro", "Suno", "Elmiene", "Xania Monet", "Sienna Rose", "Breaking Rust"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/music-streaming-platform-hit-with-90000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/music-streaming-platform-hit-with-90000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/music-streaming-platform-hit-with-90000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/music-streaming-platform-hit-with-90000-ai-generated-tracks-every-day.jsonld"}}
