The Devon-formed band had spent decades exploring technology, surveillance and dystopian futures through its music. Their 2018 album Simulation Theory leaned heavily into those themes. On “Algorithm,” Matt Bellamy sang about humans becoming trapped inside technological systems. The band’s 2015 album Drones also explored technology and social oppression.
