The AI Pact calls for model safety reviews, an AI dividend for workers and legal remedies for AI-related harms.
More than 15 candidates running for office across the US have signed the AI Pact, a set of five commitments on regulating data centers and artificial intelligence, WIRED reported.
The pledge emerged as voters and politicians debate the environmental impact of data centers, the secrecy around their construction and the influence of the companies building them.
The pact was developed by the Political Integrity Project with input from AI safety groups and political organizations. Its commitments include mandatory safety reviews for AI models, policies that would create an AI dividend for workers, and allowing consumers and companies to sue over harms caused by AI systems.
Nebraska independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn is among the signers. He said discussions about AI and data centers had helped him find common ground with voters who otherwise disagreed with him.
All current signers except Osborn are Democrats, although the organizers say Republican candidates are welcome to join. The initiative is funded by a progressive political action committee, not directly by AI safety groups or technology companies.
