MoonPay expands PayBox crypto payment tool to Grok and other AI chatbots MoonPay has expanded its PayBox payment vault to Grok, enabling users to connect self-custodial wallets and payment cards to the AI assistant for natural-language transactions such as buying stablecoins, swapping tokens, and interacting with DeFi protocols. The integration, which supports Solana and EVM networks including Ethereum, Base, and Polygon, uses passkeys for approval and secures over $50 billion in assets across 10 million wallets. PayBox, which launched in July with ChatGPT and Claude, now covers three major AI platforms as agents move from information to action. MoonPay has expanded PayBox, its payment vault designed for AI agents, to Grok, allowing users to connect self custodial wallets, payment cards and other credentials to the AI assistant. The integration allows Grok users to request transactions using natural language, including buying stablecoins, swapping tokens, bridging assets, interacting with decentralized finance protocols and making purchases. Grok prepares the transaction before the user approves it through a passkey. PayBox initially launched in July with support for ChatGPT and Claude. The addition of Grok expands the product to another major AI platform as companies develop assistants capable of executing actions on behalf of users rather than only providing information. MoonPay said PayBox can connect Grok with platforms across the open internet for token trading, asset bridging, DeFi and payments. The system also supports x402, an open payment standard designed to allow AI agents to pay services that accept agent initiated transactions. PayBox currently supports Solana and EVM compatible networks including Ethereum, Hyperliquid, Tempo, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum and Polygon. The platform is designed so users maintain control over transactions. Wallet keys are protected using multiparty computation and trusted execution environments, preventing MoonPay or an AI agent from independently accessing a complete private key or signing transactions. The infrastructure is based partly on technology developed by Sodot, which MoonPay acquired in 2026. MoonPay said the infrastructure currently secures more than $50 billion in assets and over 10 million wallets. For card transactions, PayBox uses Visa’s agentic commerce protocol, allowing transactions to be processed without exposing the underlying card number to PayBox. Individual transaction approvals use passkeys that expire after each authorized action. Users can configure PayBox under two permission settings. Always Ask requires passkey approval for every transaction, while Autonomous allows an AI agent to execute transactions within limits established by the user. Changes to those permissions require another passkey approval and access can be revoked at any time. MoonPay said the system is intended to give AI assistants the ability to research and prepare transactions while keeping control of funds and credentials with the user.
