You may have already seen that [Nvidia officially released DLSS 5](https://www.pcguide.com/news/dlss-5-is-officially-being-released-this-week-starting-with-nba-2k27-days-after-a-leaked-build-surfaced-online/) earlier this week. The technology’s official implementation is currently only available in NBA 2K27 and limited to RTX 50 series GPUs (though it [will officially come to RTX 40](https://www.pcguide.com/news/dlss-5-will-be-coming-to-rtx-40-series-gpus-says-nvidia-after-more-rtx-50-optimization-expected-later-this-fall/) at a later date). However, early access files for the game leaked some .dll files, giving modders the chance to test neural rendering on a wider range of GPUs.

Someone has already gotten the technology working on an AMD graphics card, and while you can’t expect the same kind of performance as Nvidia, progress is slowly but surely being made. “Cyberpunk 2077 is now playable at 30 fps at 1080p on a 9070 XT,” says the developer behind the tool. For reference, the [RX 9070 XT](https://www.pcguide.com/gpu/review/asus-prime-rx-9070-xt-oc/) is AMD’s current-gen RX 9000 series flagship.

## DLSS 5 neural rendering on the RX 9070 XT is possible

The project is called ‘[DLSS-NR on AMD](https://github.com/danielblnc/DLSS-NR-on-AMD)‘ and has already had a handful of alpha release versions, courtesy of developer danielblnc. According to the release notes, progress on performance is being made every day, mostly with small jumps, with some standout improvements, such as up to 150% gains a couple of days ago (from just 4 to 10 FPS). Now, it can run at 30 FPS on a flagship.

The developer says the tool, which is freely available on GitHub, unlocks access to DLSS 5’s neural rendering feature on AMD Radeon RX 9000 (RDNA 4) graphics cards in any DirectX 12 game that uses FSR. danielblnc says output quality is actually “very similar to what the official DLSS [implementation] gets,” but admits not all effects are working 100%. Performance is still very much a work in progress.

danielblnc also suggests the tool might work on an older RX 7000 series GPU, but these remain untested for now. As mentioned before, it’s only compatible with DirectX 12 titles, though the developer says they’re working on Vulkan support “for a later release”.

So far, DLSS-NR on AMD has been tested on Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V Enhanced, and it’s coming along nicely. The modder hopes to get neural rendering on their RX 9070 XT to run just as fast as an RTX 5070 Ti, which is seen as a direct rival to the Radeon flagship.
