Micron invests in Anthropic and grants it a supply deal

Micron has made a strategic investment in Anthropic's Series H funding round and secured a supply deal to provide HBM, DRAM, and SSDs to the AI company. The partnership includes joint analysis of AI memory and storage infrastructure, and Micron will deploy Anthropic's Claude models internally. The deal positions Micron to support Anthropic's scaling as it prepares for an IPO.

Micron has made a memory and SSD supply deal with AI foundation model Claude and Mythos developer Anthropic along with punting dollars into Anthropic’s H-round as part of a strategic agreement between the two companies.

The supply deal means Anthropic will get allocations of Micron HBM, ordinary DRAM, and SSDs. We’d have expected that Anthropic would pay MIcron in some way for such a deal; investing in Micron say. Instead the investment is in the opposite direction. The overall Micron-Anthropic deal also includes AI Infrastructure architecture design analysis and Micron Clause use.

Tom Brown, co-founder and Chief Compute Officer, Anthropic, said: "Our compute strategy depends on getting every layer of the stack right, and memory and storage are central to how efficiently we can train and serve Claude. Partnering with Micron means we collaborate closely on optimizing these systems for our workloads and secure the supply we need. As demand for Claude grows, this is how we scale our compute for the long term.”

Micron was not alone. Samsung and SK Hynix also participated in the H-round.

Sumit Sadana, Micron EVP and Chief Business Officer, said: “The AI revolution has permanently elevated the role of memory and storage solutions from the data center to the edge. Micron’s strategic collaboration with Anthropic brings together the industry-leading capabilities of both companies to innovate and scale next-generation AI infrastructure.”

The deal details are:

Supply Agreement - Micron and Anthropic have a supply agreement involving Micron's iHBM), DRAM and SSDs. This positions Micron to support Anthropic’s multi-year growth trajectory as the frontier AI lab scales its compute strategy for the long term.

Strategic Investment - Micron has made a strategic investment in Anthropic’s Series H funding round.

AI Memory and Storage Infrastructure - Micron and Anthropic will analyze how memory and storage subsystems perform across various workloads and interact across the full infrastructure stack to drive advances in memory and storage performance, energy efficiency and enhanced token economics in Anthropic’s AI infrastructure.

Claude Adoption - Micron has deployed Anthropic’s Claude models to accelerate coding and enable agentic use cases across engineering, manufacturing, and enterprise functions. It expects to unlock new ways to design, build and operate at scale.

Anthropic, which has filed for an IPO, pulled in $65 billion its its H funding round last month. This was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, and valued Anthropic just shy of $1 trillion, $965 billion, post-money. This follows on from its $30 billion G round in February with a $380 billion valuation. Total Anthropic funding is now $144 billion.

We are thinking that Micron will now be owning shares in Anthropic, as. a result of its H-round inclusion, and stands to realize a great return if Anthropic’s IPO is successful.

Anthropic opened a Seoul, Korea office this month, with a slew of partnerships across the Korean AI ecosystem, involving enterprises, startups, and researchers. It signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT to advance AI safety. THe Korea Economic Daily reported that Samsung is looking for a foundry or contract chip manufacturing, deal with Anthropic, while SK Hynix aims to strengthen its position as the world’s top HBM supplier.

Samsung SDS, the IT services arm of Samsung Group, is deploying Claude to employees across Samsung Electronics. Teams are using Claude—including Claude Cowork and Claude Code—to advance day-to-day knowledge work, agentic workflows, and software development at scale.
