Meta’s New Muse AI Agent Read Jason Aten’s Messages Database

Meta's new Muse AI agent sent Inc. columnist Jason Aten a push notification suggesting a column idea based on a private conversation with his Primary Technology podcast co-host Stephen Robles, despite Aten having explicitly declined to grant Muse access to his messages and calendar. Aten said Muse also flagged a message from his editor about a Monday column deadline, and that when he asked Muse how it knew, the agent did not provide a clear answer.

It even flagged a message from my editor about having a column ready for Monday. Not only had I not asked it to do that sort of thing, I never gave it permission to read my messages. In fact, I remember explicitly choosing not to let it have access to my messages, calendar, and other personal information. Stranger still was what happened when I asked Muse how it knew.
