# Meta's Muse and Moat-less AI

I was traveling most of last week in Europe, so am finally getting caught up. Will have some notes on my travels and conversations later this week. 

## What Happened

Meta's agentic AI app Muse entered the U.S. App Store’s top 20 on September 9 at No. 4. Nine days later, it was No. 1.

The unprecedented advance **displaced ChatGPT,** which had occupied the top position for most of the past year. **Gemini, despite Google’s distribution**, spent much of the period well below the leaders.

## What It Means

Muse’s rise is a useful reminder that **AI consumer products can gain share** quickly, given buzz and distribution. Users can s**witch applications at negligible cost**, while the underlying model intelligence is available to every serious competitor. The takeaway should be, in short, that there is, despite trillions in spending, **minimal moat**,
