Meta's Oversight Board ordered the company to remove AI-generated deepfake videos of a Scottish Labour councillor and a Muslim campaign volunteer from Facebook, ruling that leaving them up was wrong and criticising Meta's safeguards as inadequate. The board said the fake video of the councillor making inflammatory comments about refugees should not have remained on the platform, and that the video falsely depicting the campaign volunteer offering health advice while exercising or eating junk food should also have been removed.
