Meta launches Muse Wonder AI model family with frontier-level performance Meta unveiled its Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full AI models on Monday, saying they deliver "state-of-the-art" performance for personal and professional AI agents and can match Anthropic's Fable 5.1, OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, and Google's Gemini 4 Argon on certain benchmarks. The models, available today, add Active Memory and Active Focus and will eventually power more of Meta's Muse AI agent, which launched early last month. Meta has spent tens of billions of dollars on the effort, including $14 billion on Scale AI to bring in cofounder and CEO Alexandr Wang as chief AI officer, while Meta shares are up just 6% over the last 12 months versus roughly 20% for Amazon and 45% for Google. Meta's META https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/META/ vast investments in its Meta Superintelligence Labs continue to pay dividends, as the company unveiled its AI models, Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, on Monday. According to the social media giant, the models, which are available today, are designed to provide "state-of-the-art" performance across personal and professional AI agents and put the company squarely in the conversation for frontier-level AI. The software will eventually power more of the company's Muse AI agent, which Meta launched early last month and has exploded in popularity https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/article/metas-muse-tops-5-million-downloads-faster-than-chatgpt-claude-161145561.html . The company says Muse Wonder and Wonder Full come with Active Memory and Active Focus. According to Meta, Active Memory allows AI models to bring information you need from across conversations, so you don't have to start from scratch each time you chat with the AI. Active Focus ensures the AI continues working on a task even if it encounters errors or roadblocks. Meta says it will also ask you for clarification or permission to perform tasks. The company claims that Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full can take on the likes of Anthropic's ANTH.PVT https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/ANTH.PVT/ high-powered Fable 5.1, OpenAI's OPAI.PVT https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/OPAI.PVT/ GPT-6 Astra, and Google's GOOG https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GOOG/ , GOOGL https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GOOGL/ Gemini 4 Argon in certain benchmarks. That's a massive swing in the right direction for Meta, which was seen as an also-ran in the AI race this time last year. META It's also come at a high cost, though. The company has invested tens of billions of dollars, including $14 billion in Scale AI http://scale.ai to acquire and hire cofounder and CEO Alexandr Wang, https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/article/metas-14-billion-ai-bet-looks-like-its-finally-paying-off-155139007.html who now serves as Meta's chief AI officer. The spending spree, which also saw Meta poach AI workers and experts from its fellow tech behemoths, put serious pressure on the company's stock price. Shares of Meta are up just 6% over the last 12 months, slightly better than Microsoft, which has climbed a paltry 5%. The companies' hyperscaler rivals Amazon and Google, meanwhile, have jumped roughly 20% and 45%, respectively, in the same period. But with the debut of Meta's Muse agent https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/article/metas-muse-is-an-impressively-capable-ai-agent-despite-some-hiccups-173310662.html and the unveiling of its Muse Charm device https://www.meta.com/muse-charm/ , which hits the market later this year, the company has managed to turn around the narrative that it can't hang with the leading AI firms. Next, the company will have to show if its software successes are paying off for its bottom line. Email Daniel Howley at dhowley@yahoofinance.com. Follow him on X at @DanielHowley .
