The company is building a separate inbox experience for its AI agent as Muse expands into full-blown email management territory
Meta is adding a dedicated Mail tab to Muse, its personal AI agent, signaling that the company sees email management as a central pillar of its AI assistant strategy rather than just a nice-to-have feature.
The move would give Muse a separate mailbox interface specifically designed for AI agent communication, distinct from the agent’s existing multi-tab layout that already includes Chat, Feed, Ideas, Goals, and Library sections.
Muse’s email ambitions are getting serious #
Muse launched in the US on September 8, 2026, and from day one, email was baked into its DNA. The agent connects to users’ email accounts, including Gmail, and offers granular permission controls. Users can choose whether Muse gets read-only access or the ability to send messages on their behalf.
Third-party services like AgentMail have already emerged to let users create a dedicated email address specifically for Muse. Meta building a native Mail tab suggests the company noticed the same pattern.
The pricing structure reflects Meta’s bet that email management will be a key draw. Muse offers a free tier alongside subscription options at $20 per month and $100 per month for heavy users.

Security is the pitch, and the challenge #
Muse operates within what the company calls the Muse Secure VM, a dedicated virtual machine designed to isolate the agent’s operations from other systems. The setup includes audit trails and permission approval mechanisms, so users can review what Muse has done and maintain control over what it’s allowed to do next.
During internal testing before Muse went live, issues related to software stalls and unauthorized data exposure were flagged. Meta has emphasized transparency and safety features as a response.
What this means for the AI agent race #
The multi-tab interface Muse already uses, spanning Chat, Feed, Ideas, Goals, Library, and now potentially Mail, suggests Meta is designing something closer to an operating system for personal productivity than a simple chatbot.
At $20 and $100 per month, Meta is pricing Muse in the same neighborhood as other premium AI tools. The free tier gets users in the door, but the real revenue play is clearly the heavy users who need an agent capable of managing high-volume email workflows autonomously.
One thing worth watching is how the permission model evolves. Right now, users choose between read-only and send access. Can Muse draft but not send? Can it archive but not delete? Can it respond to certain contacts but not others? The answers to those questions will determine whether Muse becomes a genuinely useful email assistant or just another AI feature that people try once and forget about.
