The first lady announced AI learning tools for 1,500 rural students as part of the administration's broader push for US tech dominance
First Lady Melania Trump visited an elementary school in rural North Carolina on September 15 to announce an Nvidia-backed education initiative that will bring AI learning tools to 1,500 students in Ashe County over the next four years. The partnership includes licenses for the StudyFetch AI learning platform and 100 Jetson Nano developer kits donated to local schools for robotics and AI processing projects.
During her visit to Mountain View Elementary School in Jefferson, North Carolina, Trump encouraged students to use AI tools to “dream big” and aspire to create the “next great robot,” suggesting that student innovations could one day be showcased at the White House.
What Nvidia is actually providing #
The partnership has two components. First, Nvidia is providing StudyFetch licenses, an AI-powered learning platform, to 1,500 students across Ashe County schools. Those licenses will be active for four years.
Second, Nvidia is donating 100 Jetson Nano developer kits to schools in the area. The Jetson Nano is a small, relatively affordable computer designed for AI applications and robotics projects.
No financial figures were disclosed for the overall commitment. Nvidia positioned the initiative as a strategic education partnership rather than a headline-grabbing dollar amount.

The policy backdrop #
The announcement ties directly into an executive order signed in April 2025 focused on AI education for American youth. That order established the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education, which has been working to develop frameworks for integrating AI tools into K-12 curricula nationwide.
The choice of Ashe County is deliberate. The region is still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, making it a compelling backdrop for a story about investment in rural communities.
The Trump administration has consistently framed aggressive AI development as a national security imperative driven by competition with China. Melania Trump’s role in this particular push reflects how central the technology has become to the administration’s economic and geopolitical strategy, with AI education positioned as her signature issue following the April 2025 executive order.
