The update also lowers the required Vulkan version to 1.2, adds a new CLI tool for benchmarking and validation, and switches the UI to Qt6, reducing the file size from 70 MB to a few kilobytes.", "body_md": "The popular lsfg-vk project that brings Lossless Scaling's frame generation to Linux now has the big 2.0 release officially out. After a bit of an upset over it [changing licenses and moving on from GitHub](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/08/lossless-scaling-frame-generation-on-linux-lsfg-vk-moves-away-from-github-changes-license-due-to-ai-slop-forks/), it's nice to see it still going.\n\nWith it you can gain a fair amount of extra performance in some titles, but there can be drawbacks like extra input lag. It's certainly not a one-size-fits-all tool. You also need to own a copy of Lossless Scaling on Steam to get it to work, as this just brings features from it to Linux.\n\n[Announced](https://lsfg-vk.dev/blog/release-v2.0.0/) on the official blog, the changes are below.\n\nKey Changes\n\n- An entirely new bindless pipeline has been written. This pipeline brings a bunch of new features with it.\n - FP16 acceleration: On systems with a 2:1 FP16 ratio, such as most AMD laptops and handhelds, performance will be 2x-3x as fast as before, without losing any quality at all.\n - Memory reuse: The new bindless pipeline reuses memory wherever possible, using only 30% as much memory as before. This beats even the Windows version by a landslide!\n - Dropping Vulkan to 1.2: This might seem like a downgrade at first, but dropping the required Vulkan version from 1.3 to 1.2 actually has no effect on lsfg-vk itself. Instead, it enables support for lsfg-vk to (as far as I know) every single Vulkan-capable GPU ever!\n- Processes can be identified via Linux binary, Windows executable and Steam App ID, meaning it’s easier than ever to set up a profile for your game.\n- A new tool `lsfg-vk-cli` can be used for various tasks.\n - Benchmarking: `lsfg-vk-cli benchmark` can be used to benchmark lsfg-vk and see how well it performs on your system.\n - Validation: `lsfg-vk-cli validate` can be used to validate the configuration file and check for errors.\n - Healthcheck: `lsfg-vk-cli healthcheck` can be used to check for legacy, duplicate and missing files on your system.\n- Benchmarking: \n- The user interface is now Qt6-based, no longer GTK+Rust. This brings the filesize down from 70 MB to just a few kilobytes. It will also integrate neatly into the KDE desktop.\n- Prebuilt lsfg-vk now also contains a layer for 32-bit games, which works seamlessly.\n- Various bug fixes and minor quality improvements.\n- Compatibility fixes for many, many games and applications.\n\nFor anyone using it - let us know how you're using it in the comments!\n\n🌐\n**External Sources:**\n\n[lsfg-vk.dev](https://lsfg-vk.dev/blog/release-v2.0.0/)\n\n**Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:**\n\n**All posts need to**\n\n[follow our rules](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/index.php?module=rules).
