This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady I built LazyDesk AI, an AI-powered document organizer that helps users understand and organize their documents with less manual effort.
Users can upload PDF, TXT, and DOCX files. The app uses AI to generate a concise summary, assign a useful category, and suggest a descriptive filename. Users can then download organized copies in a ZIP archive, grouped by category.
The goal is to make document management simpler and reduce the time spent sorting files manually.

I built LazyDesk AI using Python and Streamlit, with a custom CSS interface.
The main components are:
Streamlit: Provides the web interface and file-upload workflow.
Google Gemini API: Generates document summaries, categories, and suggested filenames.
pypdf: Extracts text from PDF files.
python-docx: Extracts text from Word documents.
Python ZIP utilities: Packages organized copies into a downloadable ZIP archive.
I also added file-size limits, filename sanitization, and session-state handling to support the workflow.
Open-source projects make it easier for developers to learn from existing tools, experiment with ideas, and share useful software with others.
Building LazyDesk AI helped me bring together web development, API integration, document processing, and deployment in one practical project. Sharing the code allows others to explore the implementation and suggest improvements.
LazyDesk AI reduces repetitive document-sorting work by automating categorization, summarization, and filename suggestions.
Instead of manually reviewing every document and deciding how to name it, users can start with AI-generated suggestions and review the results before down the organized files.
